Animal Right
This autumn is all about the animals when it comes to accessories. A couple of weeks ago we saw spots take over and in reaction to the dotty trend I briefly mentioned Cruella De Vil’s love for spotty puppies. Well it seems Topshop took to both the spotty and furry trend; bringing out a whole line of clothes, shoes and bags that are quite literally dalmatian in feel. While I can’t quite bring myself to recommend a puppy coat unless you are preparing for Halloween at the end of the month, I do quite dig the handbags for a modest, affordable dose of the trend.
But while Topshop couldn’t quite bring itself to sacrifice real puppies, lines such as Fendi, Gucci and Chloe were not so kind to their reptile friends; with one Chloe bag featuring an entire snakes-head laid extravagantly over a crocodile skin. For many designers this season has been about opulence, with Gucci’s forties inspired line having a strong presence of furs, texture and rich colours throughout. And its handbags were no different. Classic tote in shape and crocodile skinned in feel, Gucci’s handbags spared no expense. And it wasn’t just reptile skins that were sacrificed in the name of fashion, Lanvin added some edge to its mod hand-bags with the inclusion of ostrich leather. Emporio Armani also brought back the classic leopard print in fur for a slightly softer touch and in a more unusual draw-string bag. But generally speaking, handbags were classic and understated in style but luxurious in terms of materials and colour.
But, with so many high-street shops faking it this season, there is no need to splash out on real skins or furs whether your conscience or wallet allows it.
