Home exercising can get you ripped cheaper

Working out at homeWouldn't it be wonderful to be able to afford all of that fancy equipment used in the gyms? Well, as nice as it sounds, it just isn’t an option for most people. And since exercise is so important, you need to find exercises that are effective and don’t require any equipment at all.

P90x is a home fitness routine that is designed to get your body in the best shape it has ever been in 90 days. Based on the concept of "muscle confusion", the idea is to always keep your body and muscles guessing each time you work out. This is done by constantly changing up your workout routine, not allowing your muscles to adapt which tends to cause you to plateau. The result is your muscles making constant gains throughout the P90x programme.

This is not a new concept. Cross-training and interval training are based on the same idea, but P90x brings the routine into your home. The man behind the dvds, Tony Horton, is a fitness guru that has been in the fitness game since the early 'Eighties and has helped many Hollywood stars get in shape. All you need to join the revolution are a few pieces of equipment at home and about an hour a day.

But maybe even getting the equipment feels like too much hard work. In that case, you can always opt for the Insanity workout, which might just be the hardest fitness programme ever put on dvd. Your personal onscreen trainer Shaun T will push you past your limits with 10 Insanity workout discs packed with plyometric drills on top of nonstop intervals of strength, power, resistance, and ab and core training moves.

The secret to these mind-blowing intense workouts is that Shaun T took traditional interval training and flipped it on its head. You perform long bursts of maximum-intensity exercises with short periods of rest. Each workout keeps you constantly challenged as you alternate between aerobic and anaerobic intervals performed to your highest ability. The bonus is that you don't need any equipment or weights. Just the will to burn 1,000 calories in one hour and to get the hardest body you've ever had in 60 days.

But who's to say that you can't just get your fitness fix at home completely free? If the weather is nice, it's wonderful to get outside and enjoy the scenery around you while you exercise. However, if the weather has other ideas, you can just as easily get an effective walking workout at home. If you have a flight of stairs, go up and down them a few times. This will help to tone up your legs, while getting some low impact aerobic exercise as well. If you don't have any stairs available, just walk around the house a few times - it may not be very exciting, but it will do the job.

Pushups are probably the least favourite of exercises for many people, but while they can be hard to do, you can find easier ways to do them. You don't need to pretend you're "Rocky", and do them with one hand; just do what works for you. Do them on your knees, instead of keeping your legs straight. Or, do them standing up against a wall. You will be building up arm strength and working out muscles in your chest area.

Jogging is a great exercise for your heart. You can jog in place at home while watching TV or listening to music. The only equipment you will require is a good pair of shoes, to eliminate any stress to your legs.

Getting some exercise is important, but you don't need to go out and join a gym, paying a large amount in membership fees each month. You don’t even need the expensive equipment in order to give your body an effective workout. Use what you have in your house, and work out in the comfort of your home. You will be more likely to keep up with the exercises when you're comfortable, so just get up and start exercising.
