Caught in a moment

There's no denying that creating long-lasting memories is made much easier when you capture them on camera. You open up the lens, slow the shutter speed, point and click. What you’re left with is a moment in history that you may never be able to physically relive, but you also have a physical copy of that fleeting instant with its own story that only a limited number of people might understand.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Now, your frozen moment in time could be worth much more than words if you enter More Cafe and Ductac's photography competition this summer.

The theme of the competition is "Summer Fun", so whether you're having fun in the sun here in the UAE, or vacationing further afield, organisers want to see what you see during the summer.  Wherever you are in the world, get snapping and send in the results. Spectacular or mundane - the view from the Burj Khalifa or the queue for the Metro, from desert sands to ocean shores - capture the people and places that make your summer fun. Interpret the theme as you please - symbolic, figurative and abstract portrayals will all be welcomed.

The competition is open to all UAE residents aged eight and above, and will be split into three age categories, with an array of prizes up for grabs for the winners of each. The winner of the age eight to 12 category will be able to hone their creative skills at Digital Photography for Kids and Expressive Art for Kids courses at Ductac, Mall of the Emirates, as well as inviting nine of their friends to More Cafe for ice cream. The winning Teen (Aged 13 to 17) and Adult (18+) will each win a Digital Photography course at Ductac, plus brunch for six and afternoon tea for four at More Cafe.

What's more, the best entries will be exhibited in the Gallery of Light at Ductac in Mall of the Emirates. The overall winners will be announced on the opening night of the exhibition on September 18, before going on to take pride of place on the walls of More Cafe.

"More Cafe has always supported creativity and the arts and, like Ductac, we strive to provide a platform for local people to express themselves artistically," said Marijke Lap of More Cafe. "We are so proud to be working with our neighbours at Ductac to encourage aspiring artists here in the UAE. The cafe walls and space have always been a canvas for artists to display and expose their work, and we're so excited to see the UAE's best photographic talent on display at More Cafe."

To enter, simply log on to www.ductac.org, upload your photos and fill in the online form before August 30, or contact competitions@ductac.org. Then, you just need to cross your fingers and wait for the winners to be announced. There are no limits to the competition meaning you can submit any type of image and any genre, so get out there and get creative.
