Reading tops RTA agenda
A delegation from the RTA recently visited Al Ebdaa Model School, in Dubai, to showcase the importance of reading to students in a move aimed at fostering the reading habits of these young students and encouraging them to acquire various books that help advance their intellectual abilities. The move comes in line with the RTA’s Read More initiative, targeting students of public and private schools aged seven to 14 years.
Yousef Al Ali, Acting CEO of Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), stressed the importance of reading to individuals, as the diversification of knowledge and culture contributes considerably to communicating with others and attaining the highest practical positions in future. He emphasised the importance of reading at an early age as it “empowers individuals to jumpstart their careers, hones their innovative skills and helps them pursue new developments in order to make a real addition to the country’s development”.
During the gathering, a brief summary was given about RTA mass transit systems, highlighting their immense role in streamlining the mobility of people across Dubai. Al Ali presented a quiz to the girls asking them several questions revolving around the public transit systems, and a variety of prizes were distributed to the winners.
Dr Aysha Al Busmait, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communication, reiterated the RTA’s care for students, them being the backbone of the community. “The Read More initiative is one of the communityoriented initiatives through which we are keen on educating and promoting the skills of students, particularly as it echoes the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to care for building human capacities, the start of which goes back to the genuine desire to read every positive and useful material,” she said.
“Through this valuable initiative, we are targeting a specific segment of students in a bid to lure them to read more, fill their pastime with useful and safe reading material, and enable them to acquire the skills and arts of reading. The stories distributed are aimed to support this initiative as they are specific and concise in delivering information in an effective and objective manner, and commensurate to the age bracket of the targeted category,” elaborated Dr Al Busmait.
Aysha Lootah, Director of Al Ebdaa Model School, paid tribute to the active role of the RTA in opening up communication channels with Dubai schools with the aim of raising students’ awareness, which is in line with school aspirations to showcase the importance of reading among students, particularly youngsters, which, in a sense, reflects the interactive spirit between various public organisations of the country.
