Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and DMCC, the world’s leading free zone for trade and enterprise and master developer of Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) district in Dubai, have signed an agreement on managing and operating visitors’ car parks in the JLT area with the aim of streamlining parking in the high occupancy area.
The agreement also underscores the RTA’s commitment to cement relations with developers in Dubai in order to achieve an integrated traffic system and promote the use of mass transit systems in the emirate.
Eng Maitha bin Adai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, signed the agreement for the RTA, and for DMCC, by Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of DMCC (both seen).
“The parking space in JLT will be activated in two stages. The first stage, which will be activated this year, covers 1,936 parking slots classified into different zones as indicated in the symbols shown in the directional signage according to the needs of the area. About 460 parking slots will be provided in the second stage, extending up to 2020. There will be no seasonal parking permits for the area as residential parking are provided within the blocks,” said Maitha.
“The payment of parking fees in the area will be through smart means, including SMS and RTA Dubai app according to specific categories and fees per each zone, from 8am to 10pm from Saturday to Thursday. It includes the provision of parking slots at the entrance of blocks as well as roadside parking slots at a rate of Dh4 per hour.
“Premium parking will be provided at a rate of Dh10 per hour for a maximum of three hours. Other parking slots will be offered at a rate of Dh4 per hour, with no maximum parking period set. Several parking slots have been provided for people of determination at the entrances of blocks,” she added.
Bin Adai also noted: “Dubai is one of the fastest growing cities in the world, and Jumeirah Lakes Towers is one of its most exciting and busiest districts. Providing smart, efficient and high quality solutions for the people of Dubai has been high on the government’s agenda. We look forward to working with DMCC to enhance the overall community experience, and making mobility across JLT district easier and smoother.”
Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of DMCC, said: “Jumeirah Lakes Towers is a vibrant community, where over 92,500 people live and work every day. As a master developer of the community, we continuously seek to provide new solutions that will make everyday life in JLT more convenient and efficient for everyone. We are pleased to collaborate with the RTA to roll out the latest in technology with this new smart parking scheme in our community, another step in line with our smart district strategy for JLT.”
