There’s a reason why people have been coming back for their sushi for 15 years

If you could eat one cuisine for the rest of your life, just one, what would it be? Have you ever asked yourself that? As much as I would love to have everything (don’t we all), if it all comes down to one, I would have to say Japanese.

Thankfully there are a lot of great restaurants to choose from here in the sandpit, but the question is, what sets them apart? For Sumo Sushi & Bento who has been in the business for more than 15 years, it would be quality, variety and value-for-money. We recently tried out the latest additions to their extensive menu as well as their best-sellers and we can’t say we were not pleased.

The restaurant has an indoor and outdoor seating and features a minimalist décor- plus points for marble tables which is great for #flatlaygoals. They offer a wide variety of dishes so even if you’re not an avid fan of raw fish or rolls, there’s so much more to choose from!

Rock n’ Roll Shrimp

From the appetisers, we would recommend the Seafood Amazu Tartare, a combination of salmon, tuna, Ebi sushi, crabstick, tobiko, avocado and broccoli, paired with sweet and sour Amazu dressing. Another favourite would be the Rock n’ Roll Shrimp, delicious crispy fried shrimps covered in spicy mayo sauce.

Samurai Poke

For the main event, I opted for the Samurai Poke, which is basically a bowl of rice with layers of shrimp tempura and salmon, topped with crabstick salad, avocado, cream cheese and spicy mayo. You can also order a Poke Rice bowl of your own and choose your rice, fish and sauce!

They also have an assortment of bento boxes– the Beef BBQ Bento and Teriyaki Chicken are sure hits.

Of course, there’s always room for dessert so we capped off the night with Matcha Dream and a Mochi selection. Matcha ice cream rolled in light and fluffy matcha cake made for a deliciously dreamy dessert, while the mochi selection was light and sweet.
