Dubai Brunch, Explained: Booking, Packages, Dress Codes and the Rules

Brunch in Dubai is not a late breakfast. It is a fixed-price, fixed-duration weekend event — typically three to four hours in a hotel restaurant — where one payment covers a spread of food and, depending on the tier you book, unlimited soft or alcoholic drinks. It grew up as a Friday institution; after the UAE moved its official weekend to Saturday and Sunday, most venues shifted the flagship sitting to Saturday, often keeping a quieter Sunday edition. It remains one of the city’s biggest recurring social events, and half the reason visitors hear the word “brunch” within a day of landing.
How the format works
Almost every brunch sells tiers. The names vary by venue, but the structure is consistent:
- Soft package — food plus juices, soft drinks, mocktails.
- House package — food plus house wine, beer and standard spirits.
- Premium package — the same with bubbly or top-shelf pours.
Some venues serve buffet-style, others do sharing plates or à la carte rounds brought to the table; the à la carte format has been gaining ground because nobody has to leave their seat. Timings cluster around a 12:30 or 1pm start. The snag: the clock is enforced. When the package window ends, so do the inclusions — arrive 45 minutes late and you have simply paid for a shorter brunch.
Booking
Book ahead, always. The well-known brunches sell out their Saturday sittings, and walk-ins get the worst tables if they get in at all. Book directly with the venue or through the venue’s own site; you will usually be asked for a card to hold the table, and no-show fees are common. Prices are published by each venue and move with the season — big-ticket dates (National Day weekend, New Year period, the winter high season) often carry special menus at special prices, so check what applies to your date rather than trusting a months-old screenshot. Dress codes
Hotel venues set and enforce their own codes, and “smart casual” is the default: no beachwear, flip-flops or sleeveless shirts for men at most licensed restaurants. Rooftop and beach-club brunches run looser, formal dining rooms tighter. The practical rule — check the venue’s stated code when you book, because the door staff will apply it on the day. Dubai in general does not require visitors to dress conservatively in hotels and restaurants, but what works at the pool does not work in the dining room.
The alcohol context, briefly
Alcohol in the UAE is legal but regulated, and brunch sits entirely inside the regulated system: licensed venues, which in practice means hotels, clubs and standalone restaurants holding a license. The points that matter to a brunch-goer, with where each rule actually lives:

None of this makes brunch complicated in practice — the venue handles the licensing, you handle the taxi.
First-timer’s playbook
Pick the format before the venue: buffet spectacle, beach club with a DJ, or a calm à-la-carte room. Book two weekends out for the famous names. Eat lightly beforehand, pace the package, and decide the ride home in advance.
